Form rejected: file size too large or too small

Most exam portals reject uploads for three size reasons: the file is above the max KB, below the min KB, or the wrong format (HEIC / PNG when JPG is required). This guide shows how to read the error and fix it on Size to KB.
What the error usually means
- “File size too large” / “Maximum 50 KB”: your JPG is heavier than the ceiling. Compress or crop tighter.
- “Minimum size” / “File too small”: the portal wants a floor (e.g. 20 KB or 30 KB). Over-compressing a tiny crop can fail — pad or re-export at higher quality.
- “Invalid format” / “Upload JPG only”: iPhone HEIC or WhatsApp stickers often fail. Convert to JPG first.
- “Blurred / not clear”: size may be correct, but ink or face is soft — re-scan or re-crop, don’t only chase KB.
Fix “too large” in the right order
- Read the notice: is it max 50 KB or a range like 20–50 KB?
- Crop to the form ratio first (passport photo or signature box) so bytes go to the face / ink.
- Open Compress to 50KB, 20KB, or Custom min–max KB to match the PDF.
- Free Download the JPG, check size in Files / Gallery, then upload that file — not a screenshot of the tool.
Fix “too small”
Some portals (India Post GDS photo floor, UPSC-style bands, bank declarations) reject files that are under the minimum. If your signature is 6 KB when 10–20 KB is required:
- Use Increase size to KB / MB to land inside the range without inventing fake content.
- Or re-scan at higher resolution / less aggressive JPEG quality, then compress into the band.
Photo vs signature vs PDF
- Face photo: usually 20–50 KB (SSC/Bank) or 30–100 KB (GDS). Prefer 50KB or 100KB.
- Signature: often 10–20 KB (SSC/Bank) or 30–49 KB (some RRB CENs). Use signature 10–20 KB guide and Signature cleaner.
- Marksheet / certificate PDF: size tools differ — try PDF compressor or Marksheet PDF, not the photo compressor alone.
Quick checklist before you retry the portal
- Extension is .jpg / .jpeg (not .heic, .webp, .png unless allowed)
- File size sits inside the printed min–max
- Dimensions match cm/px if the notice lists them
- Face or ink fills most of the frame; no CAPITALS for signatures
- You uploaded the downloaded file, not a phone screenshot
